Paul Rudolph's first large scale public project, Riverview High School in the Philipi Shores are of Sarasota, incorporated many of the concepts of the Sarasota School of Architecture.
Rudolph's design used modern geometric shapes and design features managed the hot Florida climate. features like concrete sunshades, open roof monitors and sliding glass walls enhanced the artistic appearance as well as functioned to regulate the temperature and light.
The design makes full use of the large scale by using rhythm extensively. The project was also a flagship of developer Philip Hiss, to promote innovative architectural designs in school building.
